It's underway! Toronto's Roncesvalles is under reconstruction. Roncesvalles Renewed is a group of residents, business owners, politicians, city planners, and transportation officials working together.

Our key priority is to ensure that plans include the condition necessary for trees to flourish. We are also working to create better sidewalks, beautiful public spaces.  And please buy and dine locally while the street is being torn up, to show your support for a great street and help our businesses get through the Dig.

Rick McGinnis has featured several intersection along Roncesvalles and his third (and likely last) feature - of Roncesvalles and Dundas West - chronicles some of his thought process as he prepares to leave the neighbourhood he has called home for 20 years. A bit less history than his previous posts and a bit more musing about the changing neighbourhood demographics gives this one a different tone, but is still awfully darn interesting.

There's no doubt that Roncesvalles has changed and the redesign and rebuild of the streetscape reflects those changes. There are undoubtedly more young families now than 10 or 20 years ago - perhaps even more than when the project first started 5 or so years ago. And the Polish community may be dwindling as the younger generation moves out, something immigrant communities often do after settling in an area, but perhaps also a result of rising prices to live in the 'hood.

The beauty of Roncesvalles Renewed and the project in general is that we are soliciting as many opinions as possible so that the street - now and in the future - works as well as possible for everybody. That's all the more reason for everybody to come out to the street walk tomorrow and participate in the community meeting discussing the design details that will happen later this month (details to be announced when we have them).
