Bike parking?

I'm curious: what are the plans for bicycle parking in the rebuild? Are there going to be the same number of ring-and-post stands, or are they going to add more bike parking?

I ask because I live around the corner from Tinto and Cherry Bomb and the racks there are often full. People end up parking their bikes all kinds of crazy ways that block the sidewalk.

Re: Bike parking?

Street furniture such as bike rings will be handled by the City somewhat separately from the big reconstruction project (although there will have to be some coordination). The new Public Realm Unit, which will be responsible for street furniture, recently asked BIAs to submit requests for street furniture (click here for more background). I responded on behalf of the RVBIA:

"The street needs more cycling facilities, especially rings along the length of the street. The expanded corner areas, proposed for the 2009 reconstruction, might provide opportunities for bike racks as well (but this will depend on the City's final design plan). I understand that the Roncesvalles-Macdonell Residents' Association has received at least one request for a bike locker at the Starbucks parking lot at Boustead. I am not familiar with how such lockers are used, and I will defer to your expertise as to whether our area needs them."

Hope that answers Ian's question!
